This was Kennedy's big failure in his foreign policy. It was an informal group of women that fought against sexism. Political freedom and social reform would go hand in hand with material progress. He used the Strategic Defense Initiative to avoid conflict. In general the feminist movement fought for things like child care, abortion rights, and equal pay. The U.S. opposed this movement, wanting the Southern Vietnamese to be happy with their government. It was passed over Nixon's veto, and required the President to report to Congress within 48 hours after committing troops to a foreign conflict or enlarging units in a foreign country.
