Unfortunately, the Mysterons neither believed Colonel White when he communicated with them nor relented in their vindictiveness or their war of nerves against Earth. They seized control over Black's mind as a punishment and used him as an instrument in their "War of Nerves" against the Earth. For example, his last name is Lefkon, as shown on his gravestone in the first episode. A likeness of the airliner is then employed for the Mysteron threat to kill the Director General of the United Asian Republic. But in "Manhunt," Colonel White showed members of Spectrum some security footage that showed Captain Black. Firing the SPV's rocket thrusters, Captain Scarlet flies over the wreckage of the bridge, using the SPV as a cross-road roadblock. Captain Black leading the Zero X mission to Mars.

Although the attack is successful, the Mysterons regain control of Black. They then declared a "war of nerves" with this threat: "Our retaliation will be slow, but nonetheless effective. For example, after becoming a radioactive hotspot in the episode "Manhunt", he captures Symphony Angel while hiding from Spectrum and subjects her to lethal radiation inside an atomic centre, but desists before she is killed and allows her to escape.

Captain Black, however, also survives this incident, as he is shown scowling (apparently at the home viewer) whilst the smoke clears.

"Captain Black" is a code name; his real name is never revealed in the series, although subsequent publications have given this as Conrad Turner. When he became an officer in that service, Turner was nearly killed when he saved a British Air Force base from a terrorist bomb.

From then forward, he became their primary agent on Earth. It is implied that, like Captain Scarlet, he too has become virtually indestructible. Very happy to see his former comrade, Captain Scarlet has to leave when his epaulettes flash red.

The voice of the new Black is the same as before Mysteronisation, save when the Mysterons take direct control of his body. Captain Black before, and after, coming under Mysteron control. It will be useless for you to resist, for we have discovered the secret of reversing matter, as you have just witnessed....". —From the description in the programme's narration.. Captain Scarlet is the code name the Spectrum Organisation has assigned to Paul Metcalfe, a fourth-generation military officer and a former colonel in the World Army Air Force Special Forces. Captain Scarlet follows in a Spectrum Pursuit Vehicle, but Captain Black throws an explosive canister out the back of his car, destroying the bridge he has just crossed.

Black can also teleport if under threat of capture.

"The Mysterons also have compassion," he explains to the Symphony Angel. Captain Black's known history with Spectrum, Captain Scarlet and the Return of the Mysterons.

Under the control of the Mysterons, serving as their main agent on Earth. Former World Army Air Force Colonel Paul Metcalfe, whose own code name is Captain Scarlet, is described as Captain Black's star pupil from this period. The Spectrum Organisation also did not know what had happened to him at first; Colonel White mentioned in "The Mysterons", that he had simply disappeared. Unlike other Mysteron agents, all of whom he has killed, or whose deaths he has taken advantage of, to arrange their take-overs at Mysteron hands, Captain Black himself is still very much alive and well, except that he is under Mysteron control. His transformation from human to Mysteron agent occurs on Mars in the first episodes of both the original and new series; "The Mysterons" and "Instrument of Destruction Part 1" respectively.

Captain Black as he appears in 2005 Captain Scarlet. The Mysterons, as they identified themselves, employed their knowledge of "the secret of reversing matter" to reconstruct the complex with less effort than had been needed to destroy it. Captain Black is the Spectrum Organisation's code name for Conrad Turner, a former colonel in the World Space Patrol and the former Commanding Officer of Fireball XL-3. In his normal human voice, he tells them to relax and announces that he is finally free of Mysteron control and back on the force.

For this reason, he is the target of a series of criminal-arrest warrants, not a series of death warrants. Captain Brown | Captain Grey | Captain Ochre | Captain Magenta | Doctor Fawn | Captain Indigo (He was thus renamed after Space Precinct's associate producer, Roger Lefkon.) When he regains consciousness, he claims to have escaped the Mysterons control, and asks Scarlet to return with him to Mars to launch an attack on the Mysteron city. However, even under the influence of the Mysterons, Black is not completely devoid of humanity.

In this series home viewers are given more information about the character: He was sent to Mars with Captain Scarlet to investigate the "red planet," where he, with Captain Scarlet, come across the Mysteron city. Captain Orange | Captain Yellow | Doctor Gold | Lieutenant Silver. But after Captain Black was revealed, in the instalment "Manhunt," to have become a Mysteron agent, the extant criminal-arrest warrant on him was amended to include the then newly-preferred charges of sabotage, no fewer than three distinct counts of first-degree murder, unlawful international flight to avoid prosecution, and high treason against the World Government of Earth. Conrad Turner (Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons), Agent of Spectrum (formely), Mysteron agent, Destiny Angel's boyfriend (formely), Retrometabolism (allows him to heal quickly from serious injuries), Carrying out the Mysterons plans, torturing and killing, Make sure the Mysterons plans succeed, Kill. Consequently, Black was shocked to find an alien city on the Martian plains.

In time, his military skills grabbed the attention of a selection committee that was organising the Spectrum Organisation, which gave him the code name "Captain Black," and he became one of the first of Spectrum's top field agents. So that they might engage in this retaliation effort, the Mysterons took control of Captain Black as a punishment--whether telepathically or by reversing the matter of his body was not clarified, but "fanon" presumes the process to be telepathic--and sent him back to Earth. Before his Mysteronisation he is shown as a much more sympathetic character, and his destruction of the Mysteron city now seems far more reasonable as his vehicle's equipment actually identifies the Mysteron probe as a weapon. But Captain Black has undergone several changes; for one, he still has the personal name of Conrad, but his family name has been changed to Lefkon. He also says that he has security clearance and asks Captain Scarlet to check if they do not believe him. Captain Black is the fictional nemesis of Captain Scarlet and recurring Mysteron agent in the 1960s British supermarionation science fiction television series Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons and its rendered 3D remake Gerry Anderson's New Captain Scarlet. He ejects and proceeds to fire at the car; it is driven off the road, causing Captain Blue to eject quickly. When the complex home to an alien intelligence known as the Mysterons turned a scanning apparatus onto his Martian Exploration Vehicle (MEV), Black panicked by misinterpreting it as a weapons system and, believing the city to be hostile, ordered his subordinates to launch an full scale attack on the complex.

However, he is not deceived when the human pilot replaces his own Mysteron duplicate and evades Spectrum for a second time, suggesting that the Mysterons have equipped him with a "sixth sense" which can warn him of danger.

In his command of the Zero-X Mission to the planet Mars to locate the source of radio signals that had been monitored at Spectrum, Captain Black had been ordered to make peaceful contact with the originators of those signals.

While Spectrum agents chase after an SPV, which they believe contains Black but is actually being driven by Symphony, he decontaminates himself inside the atomic plant and thus avoids Spectrum's attempts to detain him. Through Captain Black, the Mysterons relay instructions to other agents on Earth and compel him to undertake acts of terrorism and murder through their disembodied voice. Leading the fight - one man fate has made indestructible.

He then projects twin green Mysteron rings from his eyes, which burrow into Captain Blue's eyes, mind-controlling and hypnotising him to follow Captain Black's every word. His name: Captain Scarlet. This occurs in the episodes "The Heart of New York", "Model Spy" and "Inferno". Born in Manchester, United Kingdom on 17 March 2029, Conrad was orphaned at the age of seven months during the atomic war starting from 2028 and finishing at 2034, he was then raised by distant relatives. There are several differences between the original Captain Black and that of the new series. In the episode "Treble Cross", an Air Force test pilot unexpectedly survives an assassination attempt by the Mysterons and helps Spectrum in another effort to catch Captain Black. (The exact fate of the other two members of the Zero-X Mission crew was not revealed in that, or any other, instalment.) Since he has become a Mysteron agent, Captain Black's face has undergone a dramatic change, becoming more pallid in complexion and marked by heavy razor stubble that emphasises his now-sunken cheeks, and his voice has become deeper; the Mysterons normally employ him for carrying out most of their threats. Captain Black later steals a Spectrum Saloon Car, which he fills with explosives. Captain Scarlet And The Mysterons is a FANDOM Comics Community.

In a one-off CGI test pattern of a sequel to Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons (entitled "Captain Scarlet and the Return of the Mysterons"), the Mysterons revive a deceased Captain Black from his grave, in the middle of a storm, shortly after announcing their resuming of the war of nerves against Earth.

Instead, when the mission encountered what proved to be the Mysterons' complex, he and his team ended up mistaking a surveillance camera for a weapon being armed. With Captain Blue driving it and him, he proceeds to drive to the Grantsburg Nuclear Power Plant on a kamikaze mission to destroy it and, in the process, kill Captain Blue and all other Spectrum agents present whilst he himself escapes from it.

But as before, Captain Black quickly became the Mysteron agent who becomes the main enemy of Spectrum. He was then able to tell them something of Captain Black's history; he did not add that Captain Black had received criminal charges of war-monging formally preferred against him and was now under a criminal-arrest warrant. In contrast, after Mysteronisation he is an almost stereotypical villain, taking pleasure in the acts of murder that he commits.

In the same way Captain Scarlet has a sixth sense whenever a Mysteron agent is near, Captain Black has a sixth sense that warns him of danger when Spectrum is closing in on him, therefore making him a difficult adversary for the organisation to capture.
