The subgenus Harrisia is found in the Caribbean region and in Florida, while the subgenus Eriocereus has a large disjunction, and is present from southern Brazil, in Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina and Bolivia, then in the Northeast of Brazil (H. adscendens).
