Sarah Hay is so creepily beautiful. As good an old school, gory, spook-a-blast horror anthology as you’re gonna find. So does Clancy Brown. Made by fans in Auckland, New Zealand. Each story is so interesting especially how the last one interconnects with slasher films but with an added twist. From the outset, and via the kid who opens and closes proceedings, this feels like a rather sumptuous, overstated piece of Gothic and feels to be channelling some of the ‘kiddie horrors’ of the 1980s. The…. The film never takes itself serious and has fun with each section. Fun horror anthology featuring Clancy Brown as Montgomery Dark, the mortician / storyteller, with some gory/goopy segments (some work better than others, YMMV).

The (almost total) demise of the anthology film is a crying shame: despite a minor, if noteworthy comeback with some notable entrants into the genre such as the ABCs of Death or Dead Girls over the past decade or so, it’s still a format which just doesn’t seem to attract the interest it once did, whether from filmmakers or distributors.
